Fire-Sure Guide to Smart London Postcodes - Knightsbridge and Belgravia

Today I begin a series of some of the most desirable areas to live in

London.

Central areas of London dominate the British property scene. Belgravia, Mayfair, Knightsbridge and

Chelsea are the best addresses for properties with both size and multimillion-pound price tags. The prime market is continuing to flourish. One in three of all million pound plus property sales in Britain in 2006 were in just two London boroughs: Kensington & Chelsea  and the City of

Westminster .

 Not surprisingly,

London dominates the prime property market –1,032 £1 million-plus homes have been sold over the last year and 652 were in the capital. Within London, the most expensive boroughs to buy a home were Kensington & Chelsea (average £827,553), Westminster (£637,954) and

Camden (£498,702).

Knightsbridge and Belgravia
Knightsbridge is centrally located in the city of Westminster and bordering

Belgravia. This is the heart of the wealthy and despite a vast number of visitors to the main shopping areas, Knightsbridge remains one of the most exclusive areas of

London. Knightsbridge provides an oasis of haute couture calm within. Home to such world famous landmarks as Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Bonhams the auctioneers, Knightsbridge’s reputation as the premier international business location seems sure to endure into the 21st century and beyond.

Just off Knightsbridge you’ll find

Sloane Street

, home to such famous names as Katherine Hamnett, Lalique, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, and Gianni Versace. Surrounding the streets of fine shops are quiet roads containing some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Handsome Georgian and Victorian houses provide homes for super wealthy aristocrats, filmstars and musicians while some even act as embassies and consulates.

You find a range properties here for around £4m to £5m. If you go for a flat be sure you ask for the service charges which can be as high as £10000pa and ground rent can set you back about £5000pa
While Kensington, Chelsea and Belgravia still remain the most highly regarded areas in the London property market, south-west London has has experienced an increase in popularity over the last few years
The most expensive and highly regarded areas of London are still in the south-west: Belgravia, Kensington and

Chelsea top the list, in that order. This is because of their good stock of well-maintained and attractive period houses, smart shops and easy access to the City.

Kensington and Chelsea, the fashionable west London district, has been pipped as the most expensive address in Britain by a street in North London’s Highgate.

One of the largest houses in London after Buckingham Palace, on West Hill in Highgate Courtenay Avenue, near the parkland of Hampstead Heath, is the UK’s new priciest place to live, with average property values of £6.8m
